Bursa is the fourth largest city in Turkey, located in the Marmara Region just a short ferry ride from the centre of Istanbul.
The city has an extensive history and was once the capital of the Ottoman Empire, it has many interesting museums and historical sights including the stunning Bursa castle as well as many beautiful mosques. Bursa Zoo and Botanical Park are a favourite with visitors all year round.
Bura has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with warm summers and mild, rainy winters. There is often snow in the surrounding Uludag mountain region which makes this area very popular for skiing during the months of October to March, you will find many superb ski and winter sport resorts in this area.
Also well known for its thermal waters, Bursa houses many thermal spa resorts, the thermal baths in the area have been popular for centuries and are known for their healing properties and are used in physical therapy.
The cosmopolitan city of Bursa has fantastic shopping opportunities and as part of the ancient “silk road” the purchase of local silk is a definate recomendation.
There are a great selection of restaurants and cafes in Bursa and the area is famed for its Iskender Kebabs, slices of roasted lamb atop diced bread pieces topped with buttery tomato sauce and yoghurt, follow this with a Turkish coffee and candied chesnuts for a true taste of traditional Bursa….
